Work towards Strengthening Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Myanmar

The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement (RCRC) is the world's largest humanitarian organisation, and we are looking for an MHPSS Coordinator in Myanmar. As MHPSS Coordinator, you will play a central role in supporting the Myanmar Red Cross Society (MRCS) to expand and integrate MHPSS into their earthquake response and longer-term preparedness, in close partnership with MRCS, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Danish Red Cross (DRC), and Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC). 

Since 2004, Danish Red Cross has partnered with MRCS to strengthen emergency response and community resilience. Following the devastating earthquake in March 2025, MRCS launched a large-scale emergency response with support from the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement. MHPSS is a key pillar of this response, mainstreamed across all sectors to address both immediate and longer-term mental health needs.

The MHPSS Coordinator will play a central role in supporting the expansion and integration of MHPSS within the MRCS. The role will focus primarily on the ongoing earthquake response and preparedness for potential emergencies over the next year, working closely with MRCS, IFRC, and other Red Cross Red Crescent Movement partners. The deployment of a MHPSS Coordinator is in line with DRC commitments towards the Shared Leadership approach under the Ways of Work (WoW), with the MHPSS Coordinator working as a shared resource for the entire IFRC Network in Myanmar. 

Your Main Responsibilities:

• Co-Lead MHPSS technical support to MRCS’s earthquake response, preparedness, and recovery efforts in coordination with wider IFRC Network members.
• Strengthen MRCS MHPSS capacity through training, mentoring, supervision, and support the development of tools and guidance.
• Provide technical support across DRC and IFRC supported MHPSS projects and ensure quality implementation.
• Jointly participate with MRCS in relevant inter-agency coordination beyond the RCRC Movement, engaging with national and international MHPSS stakeholders.
• Represent DRC and IFRC Network in relevant coordination and consultation meetings as needed.
• Co-lead MHPSS needs mapping and development strategies to address identified gaps and requirements, including initiating and supporting assessments, research, concept note development, and proposal writing based on identified needs and ideas.
• Support MRCS in planning, monitoring, and tracking progress of MHPSS activities and strengthen MHPSS indicators and monitoring systems, including the development of monitoring tools, document lessons learned, and promote best practices across the IFRC Network.
• Participate in all relevant IFRC coordination and technical meetings in the country.

What We Are Looking For?

We believe you will thrive in this position if you have:

• Relevant academic background in mental health and psychosocial support (including but not limited to social work, psychology, community mental health).
• Minimum five (5) years of professional experience in project/program development, management, donor relations, PMER, and proposal development with humanitarian organizations
• Experience working within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is a must.
• Experience in mentoring and supporting volunteers and staff is a must. 
• Broad understanding of MHPSS in emergencies contexts in the country / Asia-Pacific region is preferred.
• Proven ability to design and implement robust MHPSS programs that integrate emergency response with long-term planning and strategic growth. 
• Excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and a drive for continuous learning and improvement.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is a must.
• Abilities to work in a culturally diverse environment and to think outside the box are essential.

Duty station: Yangon, Myanmar, with some field travel expected

Contract length: 12 months with possibility of extension.

Conditions: This employment is governed by the DRC Long Term Delegates Terms and Conditions which includes insurance, 7 weeks of holiday per year and paid accommodation.

Expected start date: As soon as possible, ideally in July 2025 but conditioned of visa approvals, medical clearance and availability.
