SPA Business Controller

Are you interested in helping the Red Cross operation juggle the financial resources we receive from Danida? Do you understand how to translate compliance into operational workflows? Do you have a data mindset and enjoy working with stakeholders from various countries and functions? Then you could become our new Business Controller with a focus on reporting to Danida.

About the position and tasks

The Red Cross is looking for a strategically thinking controller who is knowledgeable about the rules of Danida's Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA). The role's main responsibility is to manage the partnership agreement - SPA - in collaboration with both operational and other financial staff throughout the Red Cross' international operation.

Your role

The overall tasks are, in collaboration with operational and financial staff, to:

  • Coordinate financial management and analysis of budget vs. expenditure updates
  • Ensure that the agreed grants match the funds allocated for the actual implementation of projects around the world
  • Prepare forecasts for the SPA expenditure pattern and flag necessary issues
  • Oversee the setup and maintenance of SPA structures within the Red Cross finance system
  • Be the focal point for financial compliance issues and provide technical guidance to finance staff
  • Advice on donor financial reporting
  • Coordinate the annual SPA audit

Your profile

As the management of the SPA is complex, it takes a lot to be a success in the role of SPA Controller at the Red Cross. Several different skills are desirable in order to be successful in the role.

First of all, you are good at understanding and translating donor compliance for your colleagues. It is important that you, based on that understanding, can communicate how people with very different skills and roles must act to comply with the rules in relation to donors. Experience with managing within the SPA framework is considered a strong advantage.

In addition, it is important that you possess analytical skills and are able to handle large amounts of data. This also requires a need for system understanding, and an ability to collaborate with and, to the extent necessary, teach colleagues on how to work with the SPA.

Finally, it is important that you take responsibility for solving the task - even if it is not necessarily included in your immediate job description. Since these donor funds cover a variety of operations in several different countries, you are often the person who becomes a natural focal point. In many cases, your colleagues will turn to you for the answer to a question about the SPA - and although the answer is not always at hand, your role will often be the natural focal point.

We expect thar you are self-driven, curious, persistent and eager to learn. We are looking for someone who is not afraid to say that when you don't know the answer, you will find it.

It is an advantage if you possess:

- Good communication skills

- Experience with the humanitarian sector

- Experience with Power BI and Office 365
