Global Disaster and Crisis Advisor
The Danish Red Cross (DRC) is seeking a Global Disaster and Crisis Advisor, who forms part of our Global Response Team. The Global Response Team is DRCs standing capacity in providing humanitarian assistance responding to sudden onset disasters, conflicts and protracted crisis. The Global Disaster and Crisis Advisor is at the forefront of emergency responses, leading efforts in humanitarian operations whilst strengthening local capacities in line with fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The advisor should be flexible and have the ability as well as willingness to deploy anywhere in the world within short notice. The advisor is expected to take different operational roles and work in challenging and complex contexts as well as under physically demanding working environments.
Purpose of the role
The Global Disaster and Crisis Advisor is part of the DRC Disaster & Crisis Response team, under the Disaster & Crisis Unit (D&C). The Advisor is available and flexible to deploy with very short notice (within 48 hours) for up to three months at a time, as Operation Manager or technical surge delegate for DRC bilateral response operations or multilaterally to IFRC or ICRC as Operation Manager or other Rapid Response profiles. It is expected that the Advisor deploy up to 8-9 months a year.
Key Responsibilities
- Deploy in emergency response missions with DRC, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) or the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
- Manage emergency response and recovery operations at any stage of the project cycle according to approved plans and budgets.
- Develop in close cooperation with the National Society an implementation plan, budget, and implementation plan
- Ensuring effective, efficient, and timely implementation of the operations
- Provide technical expertise, methods, and tools within disaster and crisis response with a focus on effectiveness and efficiency

Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5-years relevant experience working in humanitarian response, disaster management or crisis operations, including international field deployments.
- Proven experience in working in complex, high-risk and rapidly changing environments, including in natural disasters, conflicts and other emergencies.
- Proven experience from IFRC response operations, experience from other Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is a must.
- Experience in working closely with national societies, local partners and community-based actors to strengthen preparedness and response capacities.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency coordination, assessments and operational planning
- Excellent cultural awareness and ability to work effectively in diverse teams and contexts.
- Ability to operate with high levels of autonomy, resilience and judgment under pressure.
- Willingness and availability for frequent international travel and rapid deployment to crisis-affected areas
- Strong knowledge and understanding of Humanitarian standards such as SPHERE and CHS
- Fluency in written and spoken English: working knowledge of other languages (Arabic, French, Russian, Spanish).
- Advanced university degree in humanitarian studies, international relations and disaster management or related fields, or equivalent professional experience.

The position reports to Head of Disaster and Crisis. The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, but with expected deployments of up to 8-9 months yearly.
